Programme Description
This two-year, part-time programme is for forward-thinking education professionals ready to champion impactful school improvement with visionary leadership. We welcome passionate education professionals and professionals in related fields, regardless of whether they hold formal leadership positions.
Navigating the Future of Education: Hong Kong’s dynamic educational landscape, shaped by key policy initiatives like School Self-evaluation, School-based Management, and AI+, demands change leadership. Our programme equips students to proactively lead school improvement, aligning their institutions with both global benchmarks and local priorities.
Academically Rigorous yet Deeply Practical: We bridge rigorous educational theory with real-world application. Students won’t just study leadership frameworks; they will gain the concrete, data-driven tools and applied knowledge from our instructors and practitioner guest speakers to execute successful, sustainable school improvement initiatives.
Empowered Professional Learning Community: Education is a collaborative journey. Our programme serves as a vibrant hub for energetic educators, school leaders, and policy influencers to grow their change capacity. The programme employs a variety of learning methods, including traditional lectures, school visits, case learning, applied research (including action learning), and focused small group interactions. Students will build a robust network of professional connections that will support and elevate their careers long after graduation.
The programme is offered by the Department of Educational Administration and Policy, and draws on both the department’s existing offerings and those of the wider Faculty. Our mission is to empower students’ leadership—within schools, sponsoring bodies, and government sectors—with the strategic vision and practical skill sets needed to confidently support school success.
Who Should Apply?
The programme is specially designed for applicants who are serving school principals or vice principals, school administrators, teachers, school development consultants/officers, or Education Bureau officials. Applicants with no relevant professional experience but have taken specialized courses in equivalent programmes offered by recognized institutions may also apply.

(a) A student must achieve a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.0 in order to fulfill the graduation requirement.
(b) Students must fulfill the Term Assessment Requirement of the Graduate School. A student who obtains a cumulative grade point average (GPA) below 2.0 in the preceding term will be put on academic probation. For details, please refer to Clause 13.0 “Unsatisfactory Performance and Discontinuation of Studies” of the General Regulations Governing Postgraduate Studies which can be accessed from the Graduate School Homepage: https://www.gs.cuhk.edu.hk/.
Note: Required courses will primarily be taught in Cantonese, with some courses offered in English. Elective courses will be taught in English. The medium of instruction will be subject to the availability of teachers. The Programme reserves the right of final decision on the medium of instruction. Students should observe the medium of instruction of each course in the system for course selection and registration.
